Support for Women Prisoners
and their Children

News from AWEC members, Kabul, Afghanistan

Afghan Women’s Education Center, AWEC, has been providing education and health services for women prisoners since 2004. AWEC has assisted the jail in establishing a kindergarten in the jail. It also helps taking children to government orphanage. So far AWEC has transferred 10 children from jail to the orphanage. Shahperai Anwari, the coordinator of woman prisoner’s protection project of AWEC, believes that the transfer of prisoners’ children is a positive step in order to solve their problems.
